The Crutches
or how I unlearned to walk
The theatrical group “Art Vouveau” has been active in Athens(Greece) since 2013 searching the link between silent movies and physical theater. Founding members of Art Vouveau are Thanasis Megalopoulos, Foivos Symeonidis , Afroditi Kleovoulou and Danai Tikou. The team also collaborates on a regular basis with the musician Giannis Selekos and the acrobat-dancer Camilo Bentancor.

Our desire is to work together and explore a theatrical code that is powerful and entertaining at the same time. Among the primary goals of our team are the correlation of the artistic work with the social and political realities that generate it and the projection of our work to the general public but also to disadvantaged groups.
"The Crutches"
A silent comedy with live music, based on the homonymous Indian folktale
A whole state, where life runs smoothly, gets upset when their beloved King gets seriously injured. Therapists of every kind from all over the world rush to save his life and succeed, although at the expense of permanent disability and the obligation to move only with the help of crutches. Then the king gives the order: “Everyone must walk with crutches otherwise be sentenced to death”.
The state reacts and is repressed hard, gets subjugated and eventually fully integrates the orders in their way of life. Thus, after some time noone walks like they did before.
But when one day the king dies, a foreigner who still walks without crutches will appear and motivate people to do the same. Only a group of young children will believe in him and get him to teach them to walk. And this group will ultimately provide the state with a unique opportunity to face again the old law in a fight to the death.
