Sugata Roy Chowdhury is one of the most prominent and talented musicians of his generation in Indian classical music. A true successor of the legendary Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, he has gained recognition both in India and internationally for his contributions to the Indian classical tradition.
This concert offers a unique opportunity for Western audiences to experience live one of the most beautiful instrumental pairings in Indian music: the Sarod, one of the most renowned Indian string instruments, and the Tabla, the country’s most important percussion instrument for both accompaniment and solo performance. The Indian maestro Sugata Roy Chowdhury will be accompanied by the Greek virtuoso Yannis Zannis on Tabla.
With an emphasis on melodic depth and a meditative style of playing, the two musicians will perform traditional compositions and intricate improvised passages of high virtuosity. They will present classical Indian Ragas — musical forms designed to evoke serenity, harmony with nature, and a sense of oneness with the universe. This concert is a rare chance to immerse oneself in the authentic Indian classical tradition, passed down orally from generation to generation for centuries.
